happy mother's day

I’ve never met a stronger woman in my life than a mother. Not any mother, my mother. Jennifer Lee. No last name needed. She is strong enough on her own.

My mother has been through things I could never even imagine living through. Things I don’t want to imagine living through.

As I’ve already mentioned, she is strong. She pushes through everything that life throws at her with ease and never backs down to anyone. The amount of shit she has dealt with you would think she would be weak and fed up but she’s not. She continues to fight for herself and for us even when the rest of the world is setting her up to fail.

She has the kindest heart. Even when she gets upset or mad she always has the best intentions and never does anything out of spite. Even some of the people who have wronged her so harshly in the past or who have not been there for her she prays for. Daily. Every single day she prays for those who need it most and does not keep hatred in her heart.

She puts everyone above herself. Me and my siblings have always been put first. No matter what. Whether it’s the last piece of cake or the best spot on the couch or something way bigger than that, we are always first. Same goes for our family. She wants to make sure everyone is always happy and safe and feels loved. And if they don’t feel loved she makes sure that they do.

She shows more emotion than anyone I’ve ever met. Yeah she might cry at the car commercial or even mentioning my siblings going to college, but it shows how much she truly lives. She experiences life so deeply and cares so much about anyone or everyone.

I might be throwing some shade here, but there have been a lot of people(iykyk)that she has faced that have put her down or made her feel like she is less than the best mother out there. But I am here to testify that she is the best mother out there. And that she has not been hurt by words or actions and has grown stronger and happier.

Motherhood means standing up for yourself and embodying happiness and showing your children that you are strong and that they can be strong with you. She goes above and beyond for everything a mother is expected to do.

I wrote a quote for my mom when we moved out of our old house one mother’s day because I wanted her to always remember the kind of mother she is to me and she hung it up in our kitchen right when we moved. “Successful mothers are not the ones who never struggled, they are the ones that never gave up despite the struggle.” She has never given up on me and I know she never will.

She has taught me to love so dearly and deeply. How to appreciate those around you that truly care about you and to create meaningful relationships with those who matter most.

So thank you mom. For raising four beautiful children on your own and showing them what it means to be grateful, happy, kind and loving. We are truly grateful for you and everything you do for us. So enjoy your day and take the day off.

Here is a poem I wrote for her today. Make sure you thank your mother today for everything she does.

To Mom

from abigail

thank you.

for selfless days and nights,

never ending supplies of love,

support beyond belief.

for finding your strength.

doing the impossible,

never giving up.

thank you.

for giving me your all;

your emotion

your love

your time

your heart and soul.

for never expecting anything

in return,

setting me up for success,

always doing what is best.

thank you.
